Medical Insurance Billing Program

Saint Michael School of Allied Health offers  a certificate program in  Medical Insurance Billing that   consisting of 1080 hours of theory and laboratory.  The length of the program is 9 months during the day.  Upon completion of all the requirements, the students  will be eligible to take the AAPC National Certification for Medical Insurance Billing.

PROGRAM MISSION

The  mission of the Medical Insurance Billing Program is to provide quality  Medical Insurance Billing professionals  to the community through a diversified and  innovative  educational programs, educate Medical Insurance Billing  professionals who are competent, qualified, dedicated and caring to work , hospitals, clinics and physician offices  in the culturally diverse and constantly changing population and environment.

PROGRAM OBJECTIVES

Upon completion of the Medical Insurance Billing program, the graduate is able to:

Prepare for an entry-level position in medical billing or coding in a Medical Offices, Hospitals, and Medical Billing Agencies.

  • Sit for the AAPC national certification exam.
  • Understand the legal, ethical, and regulatory concepts involved in  Medical Insurance Billing and Coding
  • Understand  HIPAA compliance requirements, industry- specific techniques for filing medical insurance
  • Perform diagnostic and procedural coding tasks.
  • Process all types of medical form for reimbursement.
  • Demonstrate the ability to use the three major coding manuals, CPT®, ICD-9-CM and HCPCS.
  • Explain the follow up process for A/R in a physician’s office, including the top denials by insurance carrier along with their appeals process
